Outside of acting, Lawrence founded the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation in 2015, which advocates for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Special Olympics, and the production company Excellent Cadaver in 2018. She sang lead on the 2014 single "The Hanging Tree", which charted worldwide. She is a feminist and advocates women's reproductive rights. She is also an active member of the anti-corruption organization RepresentUs. She is married to gallery director Cooke Maroney, with whom she has two children.

Aronofsky studied film and social anthropology at Harvard University before studying directing at the AFI Conservatory. In 1997, he founded the film and TV production company Protozoa Pictures. His feature film debut, the surrealist psychological thriller Pi (1998), earned him the award for Best Director at the Sundance Film Festival and an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay.

Aronofsky then directed the psychological drama Requiem for a Dream (2000), the romantic fantasy sci-fi drama The Fountain (2006), and the sports drama The Wrestler (2008), the latter of which earned the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
